KRAIL Privacy Policy

At KRAIL, we believe in "Privacy by Design." We build tools to help you navigate public transport without needing to know who you are. This page explains what we collect, why, and how long we keep it.

01Information We Do Not Collect

We do not require an account to use KRAIL. We do not collect or store:

• Your name, email address, or phone number
• Any data that links your identity to your app usage
• Payment or financial information

02Location Data

Some features in KRAIL may request access to your device location. Location is used only to provide functionality within the app and is never stored on our servers, never transmitted off your device, and never used in the background without your knowledge. Our analytics never include your coordinates.

You can grant or revoke location access at any time in your device Settings without affecting core app functionality.

03Analytics & Crash Reporting

To make the app faster and more reliable, we collect limited, non-identifiable technical data via Firebase (Google):

• Usage analytics: which features are used and how, to help us prioritise improvements. This data is linked to a random identifier, not your name or identity, so we don't know who you are.
• Search queries: the text you type when searching for stops and places. See "Search Data" below.
• Crash reports: technical information when the app crashes (such as device model and OS version) so we can fix bugs.
• Performance data: app speed and reliability metrics.

No names, contact details, or account identifiers are included in any of these reports. Analytics data is processed by Google and subject to Google's Privacy Policy.

04Search Data

When you search for a stop or place, we keep what you typed and whether it found results. We use it to improve search, fix searches that come back wrong, decide what to work on next, and shape the features and services we add later.

Search data is not tied to your name or identity and does not include your location. We do not sell it or use it for advertising.

05Voice Search

KRAIL never gets the recording. Your phone's own speech service turns your speech into text, on the device where it can and Apple's or Google's service where it cannot. Nothing is recorded, stored or sent to us, and the mic is only on while you are speaking.

Voice search is optional. You can decline the microphone and speech recognition prompts and keep using KRAIL by typing, and nothing else in the app needs them. To turn it off later:

• iPhone and iPad: Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Microphone, and switch KRAIL off. Speech Recognition is listed separately in the same place.
• Android: Settings, then Apps, then KRAIL, then Permissions, then Microphone, and choose Don't allow.

06Data Stored on Your Device

KRAIL stores certain preferences and usage history locally on your device to improve your experience. This data never leaves your device and you can clear it at any time from within the app.

07Third-Party Services

We use MapLibre for map rendering. Third-party transit data providers may receive your approximate request (like "show me trains in Sydney") to provide results, but they do not receive information that identifies your device. We do not sell data to third parties, use advertising networks, or share your data with data brokers.

08Advertising

KRAIL contains no advertising and we do not use your Advertising ID for targeting. The Advertising ID may be accessed by the Firebase SDK as part of standard analytics.

09Your Rights

• Delete your data: usage history and preferences stored on-device can be cleared from within the app at any time
• Location: revoke location permission at any time in device Settings
• Advertising controls: KRAIL shows no ads and collects no advertising ID, so the advertising controls in your device settings have nothing in KRAIL to switch off
• Search & analytics data: this is not linked to you, so there is nothing for us to look up and delete.

Since we do not collect personal identifiers, there is no personal profile to access or export.

10Changes to this Privacy Policy

When we collect a new type of data, or change how we use it, we will update this page and mention it in the app's release notes. Changes take effect when posted here.
